75th Anniversary Celebration!
First Baptist will celebrate its 75th anniversary on November 7th & 8th. On Saturday, November 7th at 6pm, we will take a walk down memory lane singing all the old gospel songs and hymns that have echoed in our little sanctuary. Members will share memories from down the years.
Please bring finger foods to share afterwards.
THEN, on Sunday morning, November 8th, we will continue our sing-a-long and Pastor Bill will reminisce about where we've been, where we are, and where we're going. We will celebrate the conclusion of our anniversary with….a potluck!
We challenge each member to dredge up names of former members (especially those still in the area), and personally invite them to the celebrations.
Deacon Ordination
Immediately following the potluck on Sunday November 8th, the congregation will re-assemble in the sanctuary for an ordination ceremony. Dennis Concha, Henry Ostrander and John Norris will be ordained as deacons in a service officiated over by Mike Napier from the Baptist Convention of New Mexico.
It is Well…
The garden has been put to rest. Ellen and the Smedly's did the deed, rolled up soaker hoses, etc. and the land lays fallow dreaming of next spring. Let us know if you can help us get the seeds going next spring.
Light and Lively!
Fellowship hall rang with laughter on Oct. 10th as the ladies of the church hosted a bridal shower for Ursula in anticipation of her and John Smedly's wedding. John, and the displaced men, retired to the Taos Country Club for a round of golf. Sincere thanks to Peggy Lord, Jeannie Norris, Cheryl Niemiec, Ellen Warren and Tracey Martinez for initiating and steering the celebration.
October 27-28 (Tuesday and Wednesday) Bill and Peggy Lord, along with John and Jeannie Norris, represented FBC Taos at the Baptist Convention of New Mexico
98th Annual Convention at Glorieta Conference Center entitled "Our God Reigns".
Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child Huge Success!
(A Franklin Graham Ministry)
We gathered in the fellowship hall on Oct. 31st to assemble the Christmas gift shoeboxes…enough to treat 50 children! Fourteen people gathered to create fun boxes and pack in the pizza while enjoying friendship and camaraderie.
Now What?
John Smedly, Jr. and Ursula Rasauer invite you to their wedding at First Baptist Church Taos on Saturday, November 14th at 3pm.
Tuesday morning prayer is at 8am in Pastor Bill's office. Afterwards, you are invited to be blessed by going to the Taos Living Center with Henry Ostrander and Pastor Bill to minister to the residents, staff and families at 10:30am. Afterwards, join them at Ancianos Senior Center for lunch and to begin building relationships with seniors in our community.
Pastor Bill is conducting a Bible study on "Characters in the Old Testament" every Wed. night at 6:30 using a homily format in conjunction with a time of prayer. Ezekial and Elijah are next on the agenda… Afterwards, join us for a taco at the North Guadalajara Grill.
Kudos to Tracey Martinez for "stepping in the gap" as the church secretary during the transition time between pastors and as Bill was getting his feet on the ground.
And….welcome to Peggy Lord who will begin as the church Secretary Nov. 2nd. She will be in the office M-Th 8-1pm.
Please be in prayer for Jeo and Ellen as they arrange a Christmas Special for the Sunday morning service. Let them know if you are willing and available to participate in our Christmas Program. We will have a Sunday morning Christmas Presentation Dec. 20th, and a Christmas Eve Service Thursday Dec. 24th at 6pm.
Also, start collecting gifts, Christmas cards, used Christmas cards and wrapping paper for the residents of the Taos Living Center as we look forward to decorating their doors and spreading some Christian love and cheer for the Christmas season. Plan on Saturday morning Dec. 12.
Save the date…Dec. 19th Christmas luncheon at Lisa and Kriss Cloninger's
home in Angel Fire.
